How to Be a Fighter Pilot in Indian Armed Forces:

First of all, there is no direct way to be a fighter pilot. One will have to be the part of the service, and after that, they can apply for the post of a fighter pilot in the service. One can become a pilot in the Indian Airforce, Indian Navy and Indian Army, etc. I will tell you the complete process of becoming a fighter pilot in each force: Army, Airforce, and Navy, etc.

The process of joining the service as an officer is entirely the same for all services. A candidate will have to appear for the Written Examination, SSB Interview, and then medical test, etc. There are many entries by which you can join the Indian Armed forces as a pilot. Here are those ways:

All the candidates who have passed class 12th with PCM and have age between the 16.5 years old to 19 years old all are eligible to apply for this. The Selection will be made based on the Written Examination, SSB Interview, and Medical Exam, etc. A candidate is free to select any force like Army, Navy, or Airforce after the Selection.

Combined Defence Service Examination:

All the candidates who have done graduation in any stream but having PCM in 12th are eligible to apply. The age of the candidate must be between the 19 years old to 24 years old. The Selection will be done on the basis of the Written Examination, SSB Interview, and Medical Exam. A candidate is free to select any force like Army, Navy, or Airforce after the Selection.

AFCAT (Air force Common Admission Test):

The AFCAT Examination is primarily for the Air force, and you can become an officer in the Airforce only through this entry. All the candidates who have passed graduation in any stream and having PCM in class 12th are eligible for this entry. The candidate’s age must be between the 19 years old and 24 years old for the flying branch and 19 years old to 25 years old for the Technical and ground duty branch.

The selection will be purely based on the Written Examination (Online) and AFSB Interview. All the candidates who would clear this both will proceed for the Medical Examination.

INET (Indian Navy Entrance Test):

This entry is primarily for the Indian Navy. All the candidates who have done BE/B.tech from any recognized Institute or university and have a minimum of 55% marks are eligible for this. The age of the candidate must be between the 19 years old to 24 years old. The Selection is based on the Written Examination, SSB Interview, and then Medical Examination, etc.

NCC Special Entry:

This entry is only for the candidates who have done three years of NCC, and having a C certificate is only eligible for this. The age of the candidate may vary on the type of entry. There are two types of entry for the NCC cadets: after 12th and second after the graduation. The required age can be between 16.5 years old to 19.5 years old for after 12th NCC entry, and for the graduation, it would be 19 years old to 24 years old. The selection is done through the SSB Interview. The shortlisting of the candidate for the SSB Interview will be done based on the marks scored in the last qualifying examination.

In this special entry, A candidate will not have to appear for any written Examination. All the candidates who would clear the SSB Interview will proceed for the Medical examination. You can go to joinindianarmy.nic.in

How to apply for the post of a fighter pilot in the service:

Once you get selected in the service, you can apply for the Post of a fighter pilot in the service before the commencement of the course. There are three types of branches in the Indian Airforce, Indian Navy and Indian Army, etc.

  • Flying Branch
  • Technical Branch
  • General Duty Branch

You can choose any of these branches as per your choice to become a fighter pilot. You must select the Flying branch. These are the only ways by which you can become a fighter pilot in the Indian Armed forces. You can become a jet pilot or fighter helicopter pilot etc.

Prepare yourself better, and It is mandatory to clear the SSB Interview to be a fighter pilot in the service. This Interview is one of the toughest Interviews. Prepare well and do the best.
